Shyish and the Path to Glory, Part I

Our Path to Glory campaign will take place in the Realm of Death, amidst the ruins of ancient civilizations from the Age of Myth. My other scenery projects are mostly homemade, so I thought it would fun to make a board using GW's proprietary scenery, painting things in a spooky, ghostly theme. The first results are quite serviceable and owe a great deal of their beauty to the efforts of my lovely wife, Jillian.

The campaign will be set on the Forgotten Plain, a haunted and ill-omened region largely uninhabited by mortals. Each of the four warlords will have his own reasons for coming here, whether seeking treasure, fame, or secrets.

The Haunted Host of The Tower of Souls
Oh yes, indeed, that is the name of my warband. They are very goth. I will be playing only the Sisters of Mercy when they take the field. Here is the starting warband.

The leader of the warband is Aristion, the Vampiric Master of the Tower of Souls, a dark and foreboding spire which exists eternally in both the Realm of Life and the Realm of Death. Aristion once lived and hunted upon the citizens of a small city of the free folk, but was driven from it when his cursed nature was discovered.

Brooding in the Tower, Aristion keeps as his companions a host of spirits. These unfortunate souls often accompany him into battle, and it is they who have led him to the Forgotten Plain, whispering promises of finding something or someone long lost to their master.

Aristion is joined by Faustulus, the necromancer of Hammerhal, a twisted and foul man who swore service to the vampire in exchange for tutelage. This figure is reused from my Witching Wood project (which might still happen, really).

Before joining the Haunted Host, Faustulus raised from his barrow Morvyn, the Risen King, and his skeletal warriors. They too are now pressed into the service of the Tower of Souls.

I've already got another bunch of skeletons and some black knights ready to go. I think that my warband is terribly outmatched by my fellows, all of whom are bringing large monsters which can chew through my skeletons in a heartbeat. Scenario rules may make a liar out of me, however, if I can get my guys on objectives, stay alive, and protect my heroes. We shall see. I will be playing the first two or three games without the benefit of the new Death rules, but will switch over next week. For now, the Haunted Host will be using the Deathless Minions Battle Trait, and Aristion will have the Red Fury trait and be carrying the Ring of Immortality.

We play this weekend! I think Ian will be doing a write up, and I will share more after I paint another batch of plastic.
